Minneapolis-- From a Gold Medal to a World Championship, Tayshaun Prince has played this game on the professional level for 11years. He is the veteran player that can help any younger player regardless of the position they may play. One of those players were Austin Daye, who was a long time teammate with Prince in Detroit and was traded to Memphis as well. Since, Daye had a short stay in Toronto however, now he's in San Antonio which may become his home. Both Daye and Prince being from Southern California and having the same body type it's not hard to imagine that the two has had a prior connection before they became teammates in Detroit. Daye who is 25 years old and Prince who is 34 had met each other while Prince was in high school. According to Prince, he met Daye back in high school where Daye would be there at practice watching Prince and learning his game at a young age. If Prince was 17 that would make Daye 8yrs old. Prince mentioned that Daye was a ball boy at the school sometimes, however, Daye stated that he wasn't exactly a ball-boy but he did attend alot Prince's AAU games and All-Star games that he {Prince} was in. Daye went on to say Prince is a mentor to him and is a good friend and they workout together in the summer time.
Daye now in San Antonio is finally getting a chance to shine without being in Prince's shadow. Daye is liking his role with the Spurs being around a lot of Vets and with one of the greatest coaches in the league today if not the greatest. Daye teammate, Danny Green, actually referred to Daye as the secret weapon and said that Daye will surprise alot of people because so many don't know much about Daye's game and what he can bring to the court.
Prince is in Memphis still being the legendary player that he is. So much can be learn from Prince's game and Prince as a person. Prince taught us that "good things happen when you give it your all" he credit having a Gold Medal and a World Championship not on talent alone but on hard work and dedication and putting your best foot forward and that's what will give you the opportunities. Yes, there were ups and downs in Prince career from Championship runs to being traded to Memphis and adjusting to new roles as his career went on. Nonetheless, he's still valuable in any locker room. Every great team has that vet on there that can help the younger players. Prince is that player.
